Alan Johnson is one of our most popular and respected political figures and as well as being an award-winning author and broadcaster and a lifelong fan of Queens Park Rangers. As Members of Parliament go, he also has a surprisingly good taste in and obscure knowledge of music. Alan was Home Secretary (June 2009 – May 2010), Health Secretary (June 2007 – June 2009) and MP for Hull West (May 1997 – May 2017). He was General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union (which he joined as a postman) before entering Parliament as Labour MP for Hull West and Hessle in 1997. He left Westminster in 2017 for Yorkshire, where he still lives with his wife.
